i dont think the FA's care. i once flew for a few days somewhere and didnt want to pay $25 each way so i took a handbag, backpack, and suitbag. and it was a tiny aircraft, 11 rows. the FA saw me trying to get everything above and hes like, "howd u pull that off to bring all this stuff on the plane?" so i said i checked in at home and went straight to security!
Why didnt you ask them to put it under the plane?

I'm looking to purchase a carry on for an upcoming trip. Many of the carry on's that I see being sold seem to exceed most airline limits. Delta, United, and AA are restricted to 22*14*9. The 22"kirkland carry on sold in BM costco is in practice 23.5*14.
I'm also looking at a Tumi that's 22*16*9. Would they let that?
How strict are the airlines on these things?

Neither for most airlines that don't care.

Carry on baggage Questions
« Reply #31 on: September 14, 2012, 12:15:01 AM »
the trick, leave ur hand luggage behind while you check in, that way it isnt weighed, and they don't know how many pcs you have.

This is a great tip, but not fool proof.

In JFK (can't remember terminal) there was a guy by the escalator checking the size and amount of hand luggage. Only once you could downsize to 1 piece + personal item & fit it in the designated measured out box, then he would let you go up the escalator to go to security.

Not very.
Drives me crazy that TSA takes it upon themselves to enforce the airline rules. I was flying ex LGA, and the TSA guy would not let me get in line for security with a carry-on and a flimsy suit bag. Made me stuff it into the carryon, and made sure to check that it was completely zippered.

Can I take a suitbag (or garment bag) on board a United Airlines flight? What is it counted as?
