You realize that we already investigated this, right? We had people over the Israelis' shoulder while they ran all the tests that came back inconclusive. We had access to both Israeli and Palestinian investigations as they happened and when they were finished. What new information do you think we'll uncover? What red flags did we bury while watching the internal investigation?

Regardless, why are we investigating this? Do we think it was intentional? A journalist shows up to a military operation against terrorists and she's KIA - what are we looking into? If the Israelis targeted an American journo? What do we think we'll find that we didn't see by watching their investigation? And if we think they got something wrong, why did it take us 6 months to throw the flag?

ETA: here's the short of it. Nothing about this investigation screams "Justice!" That's why no one here is excited about it. If it smells like poop and looks like poop, don't be the idiot who decides to see if it tastes like poop.

To answer questions you need an investigation. A review by the US is not an investigation. There are many different accounts of what happened. This is most likely an unfortunate accidental killing. We won't know that unless the US investigates it. Do you agree we should not rely on what either side says?

We didn't rely on them. We had OUR Lt Gen and OUR ballistics expert literally on hand for the tests. We are already aware of the positioning and everything else there is to know. What are we trying to accomplish here? What can we possibly uncover? We're essentially telling everyone involved, "we don't trust you" and then we expect them to cooperate with our own investigation. Seriously?

What exactly about this specific investigation do you not trust? It was a firefight, and and we agree that the one piece of solid evidence is inconclusive. Do we think they're lying about where she was? Where the IDF position was? Where the terrorists were? That's all pretty verifiable, and if we had an issue with any of those things, we would have said so 6 months ago. We were all over their investigation. There were no flags. I say this because I trust OUR Lt Gen who was involved and didn't throw any flags. Now what?

This was an investigation we were involved in and did not dispute the findings of. The only purpose here is politics and to cause unnecessary friction with Israel. It also makes them look like they're hiding something, which we know they weren't. This is where the "but officer" comes in. We don't do this to anyone else. THAT should bother you most in this situation, and, frankly, it's disturbing that it doesn't even register on your radar.
