Like I said, when the perpetrator and victim are the same race, it may be a hate crime, though you'd need evidence of that.

You need evidence no matter what the color of the cops. We all are just giving our opinion.

No. But are less likely so it’s fair to assume by default bias didn’t play a role unless compelling evidence shows otherwise.

Hmm. If these police would treat a well dressed black businessman respectfully, and are mistreating these individuals because of their dress and conduct and perceived socioeconomic status which they associate with certain neighborhoods and groups, and they differentiate based on multiple factors, with skin color being one of the identifying factors but not the only one, as evidenced by fact that others with same skin color but other external differences are treated totally differently, I'm not sure if law as you quoted it would define that as a hate crime motivated by race and skin color. (I know nothing about the case at hand.)

Let's assume it was because of the way he dressed which they couldn't tell until they approached the car.

Not going to go 100 pages on that but under either one the color of the perpetrator does not matter. This is a point you are all missing.

To believe that black cops can't or don't look at these young black men the same as white cops is ludicrous.

Being pulled over to be harassed for fitting a profile is highly likely and illegal.

In that case it is established that such a hate/bias exists. Was there ever established that even among blacks there is a bias against black "hood" kids? More so than on any other troubled hood kids?

Hard to know. It's hard to do any quick research, being as the operating assumption is that progressive media and academic bodies wouldn't prioritize such research, and Google would bury results even if such research were to exist. Looking through comment sections on various videos and articles on police brutality seems to show a lot of people complaining that the black officers are generally even worse than the whites (they seem to claim that they overcompensate as an attempt to establish their loyalties and identity as police first and members of the black community second). I do not see research discussing this in a quick Google search, although I may not have used effective keywords. Jeff Bezos has said that when research shows one thing but the anecdotes seem to show otherwise, it's generally a matter of the research being done wrong.

At least in the initial reporting. As it is, iirc a couple of the stories posted here ended up not being hate crimes. If 5 black guys attack another black guy then yes, I would say don't post it in this thread unless the reports had the attackers saying something during the attack that indicated a bias crime.

To back up your claim you did they were being investigated under the "civil rights law"
I responded that civil rights crime is not the same as a hate crime.
You said it is (with an unattributed quote.)
I responded with a link to the civil rights law showing that a police officer wrongfully attacking someone would be breaking the civil rights law - it had nothing to do with race, it has to do with them being officers of the law. *That* is the civil rights law they broke, not the hate crime laws.
