Was he targeted and beaten because of his race? We've been through this before. The "Open Season" tag is to highlight the targeting of minorities because of their minority status, not to bring up every time a horrible thing happens to a person who happens to be able to claim minority status.

Doing this dilutes the cases where it is more likely actual bias

CMIIW, but this thread was started in response to the Open Season on Jews thread. You (correctly) wanted to highlight instances of discrimination against all minorities, not just Jews. As @aygart said, posting every random news story involving a minority dilutes from the cases where bias is the actual cause, and harms your intention (or what I assume your intention was) of getting readers of DDF to care and express outrage at such bias.

Actually, yes. Open Season means that hunters are now allowed to target that specific animal. In context of people, it means that "hunters" are allowed to target people sharing a specific trait, whether racial, religious, or otherwise. The key word here is "target."
