I was prob living under a rock but you can use any 100% EVOO for lighting a menorah (as in it works?) for some reason I always assumed "lighting" oil was different

Yes, any oil will work fine (even canola, but EVOO is a hiddur mitzvah). The lighting oils are usually a lower quality and are marketed as that because they don't taste good.

I once heard Gefen extra virgin olive oil and Costso's burn the best.

Seems like the cheapest option

My first question when seeing that it's a plastic bottle was if the bottle is strong enough to use for such a messy application. Several reviews say it's not.
Not necessarily a deal breaker, it's an amazing price, just pointing out.

Agree 100%
I used a bottle like those (for the first time) last year, and it made the whole process so much neater.

As a side note, the DansDeals link for those is

I like this style even better:

I found that this style ended up leaking and messy.

We use oil for every shabbos so these cheapy ones aren't so great for us in general.

I find this to be excellent and the ability to stop it from pouring by covering the air hole is very convenient. The second type also work well.

Superior Glass Oil and Vinegar Dispenser, Modern Olive Oil Dispenser, 330ml Clear Glass Oil Bottle for Olive Oil Vinegar Soy Sauce, 11 Oz. Cruet Set ($29.98 )

GMISUN Oil Dispenser for Kitchen, 4Pack Oil Bottles for Kitchen, 17oz Cooking Oil Dispenser Bottle, Glass Oil Container with Plastic Pourer, Oil Cruet with Plastic Funnel and Labels for Vegetable ($9.99 )

Feelings don't care about your facts

The oils marketed for menorah aren't only lower quality, but also "refined", not pure.

Higher quality oils do not nesecerally burn nicer, or well at all.
This is due to confusing eating quality for burning quality.
Many fancy pressed olive oils are not filtered as well as lower quality lighting oils, which leads to sooty flames , clogged wicks, and the ner going out before the oil is finished.
For lighting purposes you need the clearest, purest oil you can find. Clouds in the oil are bad. but none of this has anything to do with its EV rating

I don't remember if I heard this when I was in yeshiva or made it up myself but I only use an edible EVOO (preferably one from Eretz Yisroel)

Superfluously redundant.
There are no non-edible EVOO.

This is a blend, not much olive in the oil.

Ner Mitzva sells Extra Virgin Olive Oil? Pics plz.
His point is that extra virgin olive oil is by definition edible. It's oil extracted using mechanical means, not chemicals (or heat), and has a low enough acidity take it edible.

Pressed oil with too high acidity is not called Extra Virgin, it's lampante. The lighting oils are usually not even that (according to what small research I did, @moko  probably knows more) and are instead refined or pomace oil, meaning oils extracted from the pulp and seeds, using heat and chemicals, and/or refined to make them more stable, remove and bad taste, and raise their smoke point.
That stuff lichora A) is not the shemen zayis of the gemara, even if it came from an olive B) I'd assume a higher smoke point oil doesn't burn as well as a low one. Haven't really read anything authoritative on the matter.
