Is the revelation of his tax returns somewhat of a vindication for Trump? The Dems were promising some ugly incriminating info there while Trump was saying it was a matter of principle, and it seems that there was no smoking gun in his tax returns.

Am I missing something?

The fact that they made them public is also a vindication of his claim in court that Democrats were asking for them in order to release them, not for the (required) legislative reasons.

Tax returns are a big nothing burger in general if looking for criminal activity. It’s not like anyone writes on line 52 “ took bribe from XYZ in return for favors”. Politicians are always getting investigated. It they’re doing something wrong it’s usually not documented anywhere close to the obvious places.

In a tax return at most you will find either something embarrassing or a lie.
