Google AI is horrible and just clogs up and blocks the search results that are still useful. Keep reminding myself to search for my answers with ChatGPT/Grok.

Funny thing is, the regular Google results which used to come up before AI, were generally very helpful...

It's about expectations. People expect it to be 100% accurate and factual, which it is for sure not in many cases.

If you have this fact locked in your mind, then the result can be pretty useful as general summaries and skim-reading.

It's important to realize this technology was developed as a conversation model. Every additional skill and intelligence that came out was a surprising bonus. But it helps to realize that it's just trying to guess the word/sentence that fits the most in response to whatever was previously said.

It’s not about expecting it to be 100% accurate. If I’m searching for a site, I’m not looking for an AI response. Also, I use other AIs and they’re far, far better at giving meaningful answers. Google gives complete gibberish responses so often that it looks like clutter to me.

Overall I’m just glad that Google search finally has real competition.

Chat GPT and others are conversation models. Google is a dominant search engine that for the last 2+decades has literally trained billions to search using a non-conversational lexicon, and is translating those search phrases into unwanted and inaccurate AI responses.

I find it very helpful. If I just search amazon, it wont generate anything, but when I ask something in question form, I find it super useful to get the complete answer there, instead of clicking through to the site(s). Of course sometimes I may not want it, in that case, I scroll down....

In find Perplexity to be much more useful than Google when it comes to AI generated answers.
Google is a good search engine but not good for an answer engine.

What's the use case, why not read it on the URL?

sorry I probably didn’t make it clear, I don’t have a browser on my phone so when I get a article link I want to read I drop it in chatgpt. Now it’s able to summarize it for me, but I’m wondering if there’s a way it can just write the article as their response in full. (Assuming it’s not behind a paywall)

In my experience, Gemini has been notoriously bad with math. I use ChatGPT for that type of stuff, and even then, a quick, "Are you sure?" Or, "Check that math again" is always a good practice, and usually uncovers any errors...

To note, that thankfully Google's newer models (in Gemini directly you can switch models, or in the AI mode beta) they have much improved and can complete with chatgpt.
