Canon picture transfer question
« on: December 09, 2022, 02:22:33 PM »
Does anyone know which current Canon point and shoot cameras still allow camera to camera Wi-Fi transfers? Looking to be able to transfer without an iPhone or computer.

Powershot SX's are still for sale...it seems like I need an older model, though.

Enable wireless functions, such as file viewing and transfer, by connecting to Wi-Fi quickly and seamlessly, and exchange data with other Wi-Fi compatible Canon cameras.

This is going to get worse and worse. It can become very difficult to even find a point and shoot camera. Frum stores are scrounging around to find whatever refurbished ones they can get their hands on and the prices reflect the required effort. Eventually those will dry up and disappear. The only non-smartphone cameras will eventually be the expensive SLRs and mirrorless and inappropriate for the children who use them. The technology askonim and organizations really need to be thinking ahead for this.

What are they doing? Why wouldn't they be available in the US?

Refurbished back in stock for $399
https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-powershot-g7-x-mark-iii-black
I just tested this camera today. In contrary to the description on the website - it does NOT have camera to camera wifi transfers, though it does have wifi capability.

I downgraded the firmware too, to no avail.

Its obviously a software limitation, and while I'd love to dig into CHDK https://chdk.fandom.com/wiki/CHDK - I don't have the time for reverse engineering right now.

I appreciate your updates. The manual did not show that a camera to camera was available on this model.  The Mark II does have it but it is $499 refurbished :(
We now have two cameras in the house; trying to decide which is more important -the flip screen or the transfer capabilities.

Speaking of CHDK, Magic Lantern while mostly not active does have someone working on getting the digic 5 ported over so the rebel t7i should be getting some sort of beta sometime
