4. <doesn't call> (probably the equivalent of :throat clearing:)
or "umm"
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

You don't.
Therein lies the crux of the issue, Yiddish speakers vs. Yeshivish Speakers.
Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

Yup. I only know Yiddish from yeshiva (litvish), i don't recall using a Yiddish word for a DIL.

Solution: don't try to type Yiddish words using a Latin alphabet. Just write שנור and any Yiddish speaker should understand.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

It's not a pronunciation issue. Simply speaking, not all Yiddish words are part of Yishivishe Shprach. For some things, the English words are always used. And sometimes, even words that used are only used for one of multiple uses.

The entire yiddish is borrowed words from other languages.

How did the older generation Roshei Yeshivos say daughter in law? I'm sure Reb Aaron didn't say DIL and likely his Talmidim were using his terms too.

Wondering, given how Hungarian/Polish differ from Russian/Lithuanian on how they pronounce a מלאפום, do Lubavitchers say "Shnuur" or "Shneer"?

Paging @yerushabubby for a real world perspective with somebody who is a bubby and inherited a yerusha.

I called my MIL Mom - not the same as I call my mother.

My SILs call me shvigger, or Bubby once they have kids.  My DILs don't call me anything before they have kids, and Bubby after.

In our circles, it is very common for a SIL to call his in laws "shver" and "shvigger", and not considered to be at all disrespectful.  I wish that my DILs felt comfortable calling me some sort of "Mommy/Mom" equivalent, (different from what they call their own mothers) but am not willing to push it. By one of my sets of mechutanim, all of the offspring - kids, kids in law, grandkids and grandkids in law - call them "Mamme and Tatte".  My child finds it a bit odd, but is getting used to it.

Source?
Does any non-Jew in the world call their mother in law “hey mother-in-law”?
To me (and my shvigger) it sounds absolutely ridiculous. That is not how she envisions herself and it's just not the same. Your Shvigger is just not your Mommy. 🤮

Sounds like one of us does differently than the world because they don’t like how it feels to use a word.. and above we have an insight from a Shvigger who wishes her kids felt comfortable calling here “Mommy”. Maybe check back in with the Shvigger and find out  :)

I must have missed that. So you're saying that because you don't know of a word in English for Shvigger, it must be that Mommy is the correct way? That's a stretch. I can hear that some Shviggers would want their in laws to call them Mommy, but that doesn't make it the proper way to say it.

This conversation is hilarious. The terms people are comfortable with are purely cultural, yet you think there is an objective problem with others' preferences.

You feel uncomfortable with mommy, zol zein. I tell you people are uncomfortable with shvigger and you dismiss it out of hand. Why is their discomfort with shvigger worth less than your discomfort with mommy?

Calling someone mommy who is not your mother is so wrong, you would never call your wife that in front of your kids, like you wouldn't call your mother in law Bubby, or your kids teacher morah, or that older friend in shul fetter/uncle, etc etc.
