“New Amazon competitor” is a bit ambitious, even if they’ll undercut Amazon on some similar items they still have less reach, much fewer items, and shipping is direct from China so takes forever.

Not if Temu (or their parent company) sources their own products and sells themselves and AliBaba is a marketplace.

Either way, AliBaba is massive (as close as it gets to “the Amazon of China”) so again no comparison in volume or product variety.

Well it’s new, and it’s taking business that would have gone to Amazon. It’s not there yet, but I was surprised that a search didn’t turn up a single mention of Temu on DDF so I figured I’d post the article.

It’s like suggesting your local supermarket is an Amazon competitor. Yes, they sell some of the same things and if they shut down Amazon might get some of that business, but that doesn’t put them in Amazon’s league.

It’s not. At least not right now. But it is was the most downloaded app in the United States for most of the last few weeks so it’s definitely on quite an upward trajectory right now.

I said several things, one of which is that it doesn’t compete with Amazon because Amazon isn’t just a merchant like Kroger’s but a platform where anyone can list (virtually) anything for sale.

So it isn’t a competitor to Amazon neither in the type of business (online marketplace) nor in volume/variety.

Still wanna argue and nitpick? Or can you make a valid case for why despite those points I noted, it should still be considered an Amazon competitor?

That’s a worrisome and valid point, and perhaps if it continues Amazon should get worried.

Ironically I made a Google search a few minutes ago for a random product and the first product result returned by Google (I’m pretty sure those are paid placements) was on Temu. Ironically literally one of the keywords I searched for is luxury and Temu is as far from that as it comes.

I've never seen items this cheap with free shipping that comes in about a week - and if you don't like the item chances are they will tell you to just keep it!
