What is your oldest COVID/Corona Discussion
« on: January 03, 2023, 01:03:20 PM »
Go into WhatsApp and look for your oldest mention of COVID or Corona and post it here.

Or anything else interesting from back then.

But a day before that on 1/21/20 in my family chat, my FIL made a recommendation to a family member talking about going to Disney, that they shouldn't go because of how many international tourists there are. Man, he was early with this thing.

One of the earlier experiences that comes to mind for me:

Had a routine checkup scheduled for 3/4/20. I reached out to my doctor to see if it would be sensible to conduct the appointment telephonically. He insisted that I needed a physical exam, so I agreed to see him in the office. When he entered the exam room, he mockingly told me that he's going to avoid shaking my hand since he knows I'm petrified of the coronavirus. Maybe he was sensitive since he happens to be Chinese.

I remember asking my wife if I should buy masks on ebay she said don't bother because no one will ever wear one in public.

Back when a charidy campaign could simply be called "Corona", couldn't imagine the many covid campaigns that would follow.  :'(

Early February when several tech-related conferences were canceled.
Also this:

After he davened for them, the Israel Post was inundated with letters of thanks from the Chinese to Rav Eliyahu. It actually delayed everyone's mail for two days.

Working for a company that sold disposable gloves before Covid, I have earlier mentions in my phone than this, but this was my first Corona-related whatsapp spat

This was before Purim.

So much for his credentials, then again, every medical professional around the globe was baffled, so it checks out. “epidemic levels of panic” was in hindsight an interesting choice of words.

I traveled from NY to EY for a wedding, leaving on 3/1/20.

On Friday 2/28, as I was walking out the door, my boss' boss told me that I should contact him when I return to see if it was okay for me to come back to the office. Of course, that was my last time in the office to work (I dropped by a few times to pick up things from my office) until May of 2021!

I still can't believe how I managed to go to the wedding and back and not get COVID. A couple of crazy stories from that week.

1. My Plane to Israel was R' Dov Zinger and R' Shlomo Riskin. I stood within 2 feet of R' Zinger davening ma'ariv on the plane, I also spoke to R' Riskin for a few minutes. 12 days later, when I was already back in the US, I saw in the news that R' Zinger had COVID, and R' Riskin was in Quarantine. I freaked out a little, knowing that I could have easily infected a million people at the wedding.

2. Another wedding guest flew on Tuesday via Spain. At that point, infection rates were super high, and Israel was undecided about what to do with Spain, Italy and other European countries. They canceled his connecting flight, and told him there might be a flight tomorrow. So he got a hotel room in madrid, came back to the airport the next morning. He was told he could go on to Israel, but since he left the airport, he'd have to quarantine for 2 weeks on arrival. Since the wedding was on Thursday, he opted to go back to the states.

3. A lot of my son's classmates went to the shul in New Rochelle that was the first shul in the frum world to have massive spread. They all came back sick on Monday, and they were not yet ready to go remote, so they canceled his classes for the week - so he didn't miss any school. His hebrew language teacher asked if he learned any new useful hebrew words on his trip to Israel, he said he learned two- "Bidud" (Quarantine) and "Bechirot" (Elections)

Actually it was believed the
covid zero patient in the Tri-state was from the New Rochelle shul by the name of Lawrence Garbuz
