Best Card for ~3K Monthly Medical Expenses
« on: January 15, 2023, 10:10:50 PM »
Hi, can anyone recommend a credit card that's best for estimated 3K of monthly medical expenses?

Would it be the Citi Double Cash?

US bank Cash+ card lets you select a 5% category every quarter.

@ExGingi know if this would work for medical? If yes is there a quarterly limit? Spend up to the limit with this and rest on citi double cash?

Quarterly limit is $2,000. I don't recall seeing medical as a category.

Doesn't Citi have a card that automatically gives 5x on most used category?

Unfortunately seems like there's a lot to spend. So sign up bonuses will give you more than any category spending.

Custom Cash only for the 1st $500 if all the spend has to be done on the same card you come out ahead with Citi Double Cash.

But if it can be done on multiple cards, maybe 2 or more custom cash for the first few hundred $ per month and then something else for the rest.

estimated 3K of monthly medical expenses
Aside from credit card advice, is there anything we can do to help?

Interesting! Do I pay to pay a fee for gift card? Can I buy a 1,000 gift card? Is it always 5%?

The other cards I have are Amex Gold and Chase Freedom. Do either of these provide 5%?

Leaning to 2% since I canít just give 30 * $100 gift cards per month unless I can streamline

Thanks again so much for your help!

Chase Freedom depending on the quarter and maxes out at $1.5K /card

Another option may be SUB if you're willing to open cards a few times a year.

Anyone else know responses to the rest of this?

Staples gift cards are maxed at $200. I think you're best option is one of the standard catch-all cards. Like the Amex BBP/Venture VentureX/Freedom unlimited (if you're a points/miles kind of guy). Or the Citi DC combined with the Rewards+ for 2.22% back (if you're a cashback kind of guy, or combined with the Citi Premier if you want the points option as well).

If you pay these bills online and can use PayPal, look into the PayPal card.

I would probably just churn SUBs, but I understand someone not wanting to have to be busy with that.
