P.S. many Lakewooders are actually descended from Polish and Galician Chasidim.

Many, as in most?

What percentage is real litvish? 20% or less?

On my father's side, big part of the family lives in Lakewood. Galician Dzhikov chassidim ancestors and Hungarian Rabbinic family.
On my wife's side too. Also Galician. Shinev chassidim.

This is probably about right. Maybe even less.

My paternal grandparents were both born in Galicia. My grandfather was born in Pshevorsk and my grandmother in Dzikov.

My great grandfather asked the shinover what to do when the war broke out, and he told them to go to Russia. The Russians treated them very poorly, even suspecting them of being spies. My grandfather said he knows they did the right thing by listening and having emunas chachomim, and when he gets back he'll tell his friends, even though it was hard they don't regret it. There were no friends to tell...
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Maybe I got some of the details wrong. You can hear the story here from R Fishel Shachter, he said it the day my grandfather was niftar.

Reminds me of the famous story that happened to many people living in East Galicia, my grandparents included. After the Russians invaded them they demanded that everyone accept Russian citizenship. There was great debate about what to do since they threatened with arrest whoever didn’t follow. One day they rounded up all dissenters and sent them to Siberia. The people were sure that it was a mistake that they made. But they later learned that it was their biggest NES. The nazis invaded the towns a few weeks later and the rest is history……

None of my great grandparents were remotely connected to the community I belong to. But it was their doing that made their kids land up in the moisdos and connect.

Reb Moishele Shinever sent my wife's great grandparents to America.

Nice, that was even before WWI. Reb Eluzer Reisher also famously sent his brother in law and others, saying that it will come a time when people would wish to escape to America. Avromie7's story was involving a war and escaping to Russia, which appeared referring to WW2, and even Reb Moishele was niftar before WWI.
