I'm no aviation expert, but I do wonder why the controller chose the runway HPN was using (16) and not 34. Seems like a shorter approach.

1. Most likely wind direction
2. Closer is not better if you're too high up. You need to line up at the proper glideslope angle.

I'm not a pilot or expert, but could be because he didn't declare an emergency right away so he set him up for the runway in use

and im not sure if there is an explanation of what went wrong other than a human error or major catastrophe
i don't know much but someone was telling me once its slower than 80 knots it tumbles down, im not sure if that's the case, because the lower you fly the air is more dense

so i just don't know, will leave it at that

Do we know why the plane crashed? From ATC he was still in the clouds ~1.5 miles from the airport and the clouds were ~300 ft. you can hear him say, "once you'll break out of the clouds you'll see the lights of the airport".

It is the anniversary of Bryants death if any of the children of Ben a'h and Baruch a'h are sports fans would they appreciate  a call from bryants wife? I am not a sports fan so I  dont know, but if this  was me I  would  probably not be interested in hearing from anyone at this time . However I figured that it doesnt hurt to ask. If someone is 100 percent positive  the kids  would be thrilled to hear from someone close to kobe like his wife and kids  then maybe they  can send her a tweet and she would reach out to them .Please no one should try tweeting her that request unless they know for sure.

Just a day shy of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Something about those two events (along with some other things going on in my life) really helped me realize that while we can’t understand death, tragedy, and human suffering, we can somehow accept that things are the way they are even if we can’t explain/rationalize it.

pretty sure they knew this before they crashed. You clearly hear him say that they have no oil pressure which inevitably causes an engine shutdown

The whole story is very sad. And to add that they were given a plane that shouldn't have been in the sky to start.   I'm not sure how it works when flying a plane, is it expected that the pilot is supposed to check the oil levels and see if everything is up to par? Is it like a car with a check engine light illuminated?    Or can very well be these guys wanted to rent their planes and cleared any codes or faulty errors so they can make money renting their planes.
  The nisha'mos should have an aliyah..

I have a fear of private jets (Not that I actually ever get the opportunity to fly them). Are they actually much more dangerous than flying commercial? It definitely feels that way.
