Urgent Help Needed: Expired Passport

MY Client who holds a Belgian Passport & US Green Card  just found out his Belgian passport expired 2 weeks ago.
He has a flight today from NYC to Belgium with a stopover in Dublin.
Anyone know if he would be allowed to travel?

Wouldn't the computer pick up that it's expired?

I don’t think they scan a passport except by security which you don’t need to give a passport, you can give a drivers license, and once you’re out of the us I don’t think anything is scannable. Still would not recommend to try at home but seems like a desperate situation
