AA Status
« on: February 03, 2023, 03:19:26 PM »
Couldn't find an existing thread on this topic.

Is there any value to having AA Platinum Pro, above regular platinum?

An agent once told me that you can get upgrades even on Award tickets (with pro)

I have till the end of the month to get it for next year, need to decide if I should do anything to try to get it or not worth much.

No. You can book stays through rocketmiles that you don't have to even use and get gold for far less plus you get AA miles. Plus gold gets you next to nothing on international flights that you can't get by getting an AA credit card. A card whose spend can also get you gold.

Using an AA Business CC is there any way to split who gets the actual points and who gets the loyalty points for status?

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

It's really up to you to determine if the value you're going to get is worth that money. If you have the cc you're already getting the extra bags and I think an improved boarding spot high enough to get you on when there's still overhead space. You can pay a lot less than $1,000 to choose the best seats in economy for a couple of flights, and you're not eligible for comp upgrades, few as those are as a gold, on international flights. So you just have to decide if the elite line at the airport and some priority in rebooking when a flight gets canceled or in a misconnection is worth a grand to you. I have been ExPlat for the last year doing a bunch of domestic and Caribbean flights and while it's nice I don't think I would pay $1,000 for that, let alone Gold if I honestly added up the monetary benefits of the benefits I've received.

So now that I am a stone throw from top-tier thanks to the loyalty point system, what do I do with it?

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Sit there quietly and admire it, but don't actually use it very much

Fly?

Seriously, other than upgrades on domestic flights (where AA just doesn't serve much of the useful routes for me), what benefit do I have? On intl routes I would anyways book J in the first place.

Having had it for a while, this is being amazing and worthwhile. You can book the cheapest economy seat, pick whatever seat you want and get upgraded. Worst case you have a decent economy seat. Just did this with a 14.5k economy JFK-lax. Was confirmed upgrade 11:55 before the flight
