How about we start a shared Google spreadsheet where we compare prices of shelf stable items between strictly kosher brands and national brands?
Yes we should. I moved over to buying strictly from non Jewish stores except for chicken, meat and a few other items and my food bill went down.

This was discussed a few times already. But why in Monsey is Salomon $19 a pound and $9.99 in Shoprite in Garnerville? What was kosher about the fish. They used a kosher knife to cut it.

Another issue is hashgachas slapping on a label and brand charging double the price. When the hashgacha fully relied on the OU.
What is the issue?

If you don't need the heimish Hashgacha, just buy the 'regular'version.

It sounds like consumers aren't aware or don't care.
To quote the great Syms OBM, 'and educated consumer, is our best customer'.

People can wake up and shop smarter if they want to.

You can eat in an appealing place as Hava java with good food, presented nicely, in a mostly clean place, or you can go to XXX's bagels and get unappealing medium food, in a filthy place and the food looks just uncovered from yesterday. Oh, they also just give you sandpaper rolls as napkins.
One is double the price of the other and it's a personal choice.

Agree! but a bit of false advertising. Consumers think its "more kosher"

who complaining about that? Obviously a more high end place cost more. (thought Hava Java is not high end and some really high pricing. $10 for a tuna bagel with 0 toppings. $22 for non fresh sitting in the fridge pasta etc https://www.havajavaonline.com/Menu11-10-22.pdf )

Exactly. Biggest racket of all time. I'd love for someone to successfully bring an antitrust suit against them - crazy how much kosher wine costs. Kosher meat costs more because there are so many more costs that go into it (shochtim, bodkim, melicha, back half of the animal, most animals sold off as treifos, etc.) but kosher wine? Other than mashgichim until the time of bishul, I'm not sure why the cost is so high. Average nonkosher wine sold is less than 10 or 20 bucks (or something like that). Hard to get a decent drinkable kosher bottle at that price.
Then why aren't other brands less expensive?

Question, מזונותיו של אדם קצובים מראש השנה עד ראש השנה, does this mean that if prices go up mid year we'll starve to death ?
Mezonosov =/= income. Unexpected expenses are also included in mezonosov.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Was just at Sam's this morning to get some crab legs. Salmon was 12.95 a pound.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

There are not many other brands besides for the specialty items. Stores only carry the other brands because they have higher margin. Otherwise they would not carry them. It would also not be so far fetched to say that Kayco wont allow stores to charge less for other brands.

Your point? so some pricing went up? Bottom line is Jewish stores are more expensive and for no reason.

So sell on KW by the case. Where are all the wineries stepping in to take advantage of not going through them?
I'm having a hard time believing that they're solely responsible for the kosher tax.

His point is jewish stores don't need to be in a bidding war with all the major chains and compete against ShopRite's sales. FYI, soda in ShopRite (when not on sale) is more expensive than Seasons in Lakewood.

Of course not. Also, you won't find many good bottles of non-kosher wine for much less than $20 either, it's below cost for premium grapes.

True. But overall it shouldn't be that much more. But it is.
