On that note, would a Dremel work? Just thought of it.

Been looking for an excuse to buy one for a while now lol.
I have a Dremel and I don't think it will work on that nail. The picture looks like a 16D nail?

Do you need any special attachment? (I'm totally with this tool.)
Standard blade that should come with it.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Angle grinder?
That will work but a little harder to use.

Thanks

Nail is 6D finishing nail.

No idea if that's thinner or thicker than 16D lol. I really don't know much about woodworking yet I'm working on a gigantic (at least for me) project. It's a fun learning experience.

Angle grinder?

Definitely not, one slip of the tool and the project is kaput. There's a lot of foam core involved.

It's also harder to cut very precisely with an angle grinder- you can easily end up cutting into the wood, or at least burning half-circle marks onto the wood. If he wants it to look good, a finer tool probably has higher chances of success.

A good wire cutter?

I don't think I have the clearance around the nail to do that.

With a nail it can potentially ruin the tool

Dremel does have cutting disc's. Might work on a 6d, a lot smaller diameter than a 16d.
The multi-tool will cut it off in a second or less.  :)

They do make a nibbler for it similar to the horse one I posted.

The look doesn't matter here, it's more to avoid getting poked. I think @CountValentine's recco seems the way to go, I just gotta find one.

Edit: I see the Dremel response just now. Maybe I'll just do that.

One with the little holes like this might work, but it won't cut flush. There will still be a bit sticking out.

I believe I have cutting disc's for mine. If you want I will see tomorrow if it will cut a 6d.

Another option is take the nail out and cut it. Or after taking it out I would cut a 8d since you are reusing the whole.

Appreciate the offer, but I just ordered this regardless. Should arrive tomorrow.

Taking it out is not an option at this point, the nails are already punched beneath the wood surface and I'm not tearing out the entire thing.

Nice and it should work. It contains the 426 disc. Use the 402-mandrel included in the kit.

Use with Mandrel 402
Makes it easy to cut or slot bolts & screws
Use on sheet metal, thin wood & plastic
Cuts only along its edge
1-1/4" dia.

Honestly if you have a few nails to remove your best bet was probably to get an oscillating tool and put the attachment that can cut a nail. works like a pro.

Update:

Pros:
Cuts the nails like butter
Makes pretty sparks

Cons:
Location is too tight to get the nails down flush

Pretty happy with the results though.
