For now, it seems like I'll be starting off with this Milwaukee drill and this Dewalt tool set. Let me know if you object and why.

I also got the HDX basic tool kit approx. 10 years ago and has held up great until now. Some things were junky like the clamps, boxcutter, and tape measure.  But it was worth the $19.99 I spent on it. I also got a Dewalt drill then, the one that is constantly being posted on the forums on sale and @myi keeps on saying its not a good deal :) I got it for $100 on black Friday along with an extra battery, bits set, and drill set. All of my DeWalt stuff have kept up great!
That was my very first drill. Been using bigger and better drills since that one.

You're starting with just an impact driver and no drill? I'd do the oposite.

Deep socket set (no need for standard in 99% of cases)
If you plan on working on cars you better have a standard set.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Agreed, plus you can use an extension if you need longer.

Drill is every day and impact is every month or less often.

Why can't I use an impact driver for everyday?

Why do you want an impact driver? That is not good for drilling or regular screw diving.

I would get both.
Deepwell is not about needing longer.

I was thinking because when I need something powerful I have it. Is it not recommended to use an impact drill for basic assembly around the house?

It will rip the screws apart

Even on a low setting? I also love impact drivers because the bits go in and out.

Yes. Most don't have variable speed settings, and you'll have trouble getting much of a low speed from the trigger. It's the right tool for driving screws, but not for anything remotely delicate like furniture, fixtures, etc.

I also love impact drivers because the bits go in and out.
- For household projects, I’d strongly recommend a drill with a quick-release chuck like the Milwaukee 12v above. It’s much more convenient and quicker to swap bits with just a simple click, as opposed to tightening a real chuck. You can get a set of drill bits with quick-release hex-shaped bottoms (like this one that I have) so you can drill holes with the same

Yes. The point of impact is to have high torque. It will do that with impact on your Phillips screw and rip it apart.

Tip of the trade: if you don't need one specific tool at the moment buy as you go or need.
Wait for a sale or just happen to glace upon something in Lowes or home depot.

Past few deals posted on dansdeals.com allowed me to add some new members to the family.

For example, i always wanted these and finally found the perfect opportunity.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.
