because i didn't want to pay the annual fee, they were very difficult about waiving it

Yes, but i have such a large CL with chase and i use so little of it (real spending is always on a business card) that it doesn't really matter..

Sorry...didnt really get it...What SP card do you have now?  Why cant you apply for the other SP and close your current SP via recon?

I have SP mastercard at the moment. I could apply for the visa and close the MC via recon. I'm asking if anyone's done it twice, because that's what i'm trying to do, and if they're getting more difficult about it i would assume this would be getting harder, no?

They are allowing having one SP open. So if you offer to transfer CL and close your current SP there shouldnt be problem.

And, on an unrelated note, does anyone know of any american cc's that come with those chips they use in Europe? I had a very annoying moment in a cab at CDG airport in Paris where none of my cards, neither american nor Israeli, would work. Good thing i always carry some US dollars...

You can try converting to a non preferred card. But the preferred card carries a fee whether it is visa or WMC.
