With the prices so high they still need to add this charge?

If you really think that restaurants/stores are sacrificing anything by accepting CC than you really know nothing about business. This is just a low greedy tactic to get another few bucks out of your pocket. I'd tell them good buy I'll give my business elsewhere.

These days, once places are adding inflation surcharges, adding a cc surcharge won't faze anyone.

1 place does this in CLE. I told them I'll come back when they knock it off.
People spend more with CCs. And employees can't steal money from CC transactions.

I personally recently had this. A lunch place near my old office starting charging a cc fee (I bought lunch there daily). I stopped going there. A few months later, I was walking outside and an employee asked me "why dont you come by any more". I told him because of the cc fees. He said "oh, the boss stopped that months ago". I'm assuming the drop in sales was enough for him. I'm not sure how many other people were just like me and found it really greedy.

Cash discounts are permitted, but stores have to be very careful with the language they use. I had a talk about this with the owner of Estihana- he was adamant that the way he phrases it is fine (it's not). I told him that while I along with most of his customers will not submit a complaint to the State, he needs to be more careful because all it takes is one angry customer.

Why is it ok for Gas stations to have separate prices for cards/cash?

It’s not a cash discount. Most of these stores just charge a surcharge to use a credit card which can be problematic.

In addition to the ethical and legal question here. There seems to be a halacha question from a ribis attend point. As the buyer is paying more to not have to pay up front.
