Weirdest things you have made money from

Not sure if such a thread was already done, would be interesting to see what folks have done. I’ll go first: flipped cars in the height of the car shortage for 5 figures profit each

Got brand name gift cards for 15 to 20 percent off through a hole in a calculation system. Bought about 2 million dollars worth of gift cards. This goes back 10 years. As a side bonus I made miles or Cashback on the purchases as well :-)

It was shut down after they discovered it. Somebody must have lost their job because this was BIG loss for them.

Somebody in DDF also figured it out but he came on at the end catching the mistake but I'm not sure what he gained or who he was. Found out that he knows from a post he made around here.

+1 (possibly more, as the figure is in the tens of thousands, in addition to 30 year loans at 3.75% fixed)
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Class action lawsuits for things I resold including Lenovo laptops and Nabi tablets. Don’t remember the numbers but it was over 1k free money each time.

Bought a bunch of Nespresso machines for cheap when they offered free $75-100 credit, redeemed the credit, and waited a few weeks for the promo to be over and resold the machine for a profit.

ShopRite had a pretty unknown and clunky site called ShopRite delivers with some incredible deals on TVs, iPads, vacuums, and other random items you wouldn’t expect from ShopRite. I resold and dropshipped items from there for years. At one point I was a tenth of all their orders. They kept changing their site to try blocking me and I kept finding new ways to evade it. Eventually they killed the good deals and I was gone.

During COVID sold 3 ply masks, 3m masks, sanitizer, gloves, gowns, coveralls, shoe covers, kids masks (custom branded) and who knows what else. That whole period was some of the weirdest times ever.

Bought a bunch of Samsung tablets on SkyMall to get 25k miles per order, but I needed a filler item so with each order I also bought a “toilet lock” (maybe for child safety, I’m still not sure what it was) filler item for a few dollars to get me over the threshold for the miles. So I had a bunch of toilet locks lying around until I tossed them.

How long was it open for?

It was a seasonal promotion, and it lasted 2 years with I think 3
or 4  sales. Whenever the sale was going on, the mistake happened.

There was a $10K purchase limit per day per account, otherwise I would've become a BILLIONAIRE. I had at the end 2 accounts. If only I had access to multiple accounts......You couldn't open an account out of the blue, was some kind of incentive program that you needed an existing account. I advertised in a local paper if anyone wants to sell their account and got an offer for $800. I was laughing to the bank. This opened another 10K shopping spree. I had to be careful though not to open any eyes, which eventually shut it down because I became an HOG and I reported an issue about a transaction. I think that opened their mind what I'm doing here . What does Dan say. PGFHGS......I think that happened here.

Made homemade “scratch off” lottery tickets in elementary school (by stapling 2 raffle tickets together) and sold them to my classmates, was pulling in good cash until the Rebbe put a hard stop >:(
