Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Page AZ
Lake Powell (popular lake for boating, with kayak, motor boat, pontoon boat, houseboat rentals, Jetski, boat tours, and swimming). Lake and surrounding canyon walls are uniquely scenic together (it's actually a huge artificial reservoir surrounded by canyon walls, resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam

How bad is it really? temps next week  show 100f and80f at night

is the dry heat any saving grace?
It has actually been humid! It’s 43% humidity right now. It’s known as monsoon season. It’s a lot like East Coast summer weather this week. Super hot and humid unfortunately. Nights are very reasonable, a lot like East coast summer evenings.

Looking for a large place to store Utensils from a summer program from now until next summer.
Would prefer not to use the go to storage places…

FWIU there is nothing to do in Flagstaff.
If minyanim are a deal breaker for you I think you should rethink this whole trip.
The grand canyon, assuming you do a reasonable hike but not an overnight one should be a day and a half. Arrive in the afternoon, do the rim walk, go see the imax, bbq. Next day wake up early and do a hike down into the canyon. If you want an overnight hike with camping it will obviously be longer. But again, I doubt you will find a Minyan, and travelling back and forth to Flagstaff is crazy-an hour and a half drive.

I stayed in Flagstaff for 4 nights, primarily to be near minyan (Chabad of Flagstaff) over shabbos.

We did day trips to Sedona and Grand Canyon from there (each about an hour). (you can spend 1-2 days at each).

Page AZ is further (2 hour drive - a bit far for a day trip), where you can go to lake powell (boating/swimming), Horseshoe bend, Antelope canyon. See wiki for more activities there.

See also Chabad of Flagstaff's website for more attractions https://www.thekoshercanyon.com/attractions . Also see  https://www.visitarizona.com

Other (less unique) things to do in Flagstaff include renting bikes, kayaking, trails, ropes course, horseback riding, hiking, and Bearizona.

A. I really should've posted years ago, but every time I come to Phoenix, I find Manhattan Pizza is a great cozy spot for home-style cooking without being as overpriced as some of the other places. Such nice friendly owners, it's always nice to be back. Just beware to give enough time for food to be ready. They make everything from scratch and take their time. So if you're in any rush I highly recommend you place your order in advance.

B. Though it may seem bizarre to write a review on Shabbos food, but since Imperial Market seems to be the only game in town for Shabbos takeout, I figure it may be useful for others.

Their challah just didn't look good enough to buy (and I read some negative comment on that in a Google review as well), I'd just get TJ's challah or other delicious PY breads that TJ sells, together with their multiple kosher wines they offer too. Unfortunately TJ's was OOS on challah, so we sufficed on their mini baguettes and some challah we brought in.

Ratings 1 (poor) - 5 (excellent)

Roasted chicken 3.5 (pretty simple, but slightly dry and very salty)

Meatballs 3.7 (loved by some, disliked by others)

Stuffed cabbage 5 (Excellent job)

Potato Kugel 5

Noodle Kugel 1 (was so bad as to be completely inedible)

Cholent 5 (was loved by adults and kids alike, even though it [as all our food] was eaten cold)

Gefilte fish 4.5 (was ok)

Bourekas 2 (would give a 1, but maybe I just don't like bourekas. They don't make them. They use frozen par-baked ones)

Franks in blanks 1.5 (barely edible).

I thought La Bella was the only Kosher pizza in town!
On a side note rumor has it that a Full fledged grocery store is opening in a few months

We really need a breakfast place here. There is the Milk & Honey cafe at the JCC, but it’s not Cholov Yisroel. The best would be to just buy breakfast stuff at Imperial Market.
