Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk

The enchantment looks incredible but not cheap. Any way to get rooms cheaper?

I read through most of the thread and Im trying to finalize my itinirary
We are staying in phoenix and have four days to travel. full day trips but no overnights. We are into natural beauty, parks, hiking up to 2-3 miles RT
What are the must do's aside for GC and Sedona?
Im thinking something along the lines of Day 1: GC day 2: Dedona Day 3 Tuscon/senora Day 4 ??
I know that technically GC and Sedona are in the same direction, but can you do both in one day?
Antalope canyon, havasu falls, Glen Canyon.. Any way to tie those in?

GC and Sedona are tough in one day, especially with the drive, but to drive to GC and back and then Sedona and back is a waste, sleeping over is the way to go. I believe Havasu falls is way out and not worth the hours it takes to get there.

You can do both Sedona & Grand Canyon in 1 day if you leave early AM to Sedona. Or as Aj3042 recommended, staying overnight in Sedona, Flagstaff etc.
If your driving to Tucson, you can visit Bisbee & Tombstone.
In Phoenix itself there are many mountain hikes and scenery to enjoy.

It's a really long drive to do in one day. Phoenix to GC is 3.5 hours each way. GC and Sedona is a perfect 2 day trip... 1 day for both makes it a real rush job. IMHO you don't get to sit and experience the grandeur if you are on such a tight schedule.

Are you travelling with kids or only adults?

That's what I'm saying too. Can it be "done" in one day? Yes. Should it? No.

We are adult only. Its pesach. Sleeping over isn't really an option for practicality and minyan
Is there minyan anywhere up north ( so that we can leave in the AM hours)
According to Go Daven there isn't.

It seems like GC and Sedona can each be a full day. I guess its too bad for the additional drive. Any specific highways to take to make the most of the drive?
Any NOT TO BE MISSED sights in the neighborhood?
Any suggestions regarding Out of Africa? Is it any diff from the San Diego Safari, we did that not long ago..

Is Mt Lemmon Worth the 3.5 hr drive from Phoenix?

FYI someone suggested the Hole in the rock. Awesome Idea! We did it on Erev Yom Tov. Perfect for a short day. Anything else like it- short hike, nice view and in phoenix for next Friday?

The drive is very nice. I believe there's basically one way people go (don't remember details) and it passes by the mountains and is something to see.
Also let me warn you-about an hour away from GC is this town that probably makes a living off ticketing people heading to GC. Make sure your driving at or below the speed limit, not at all above, when you pass by these towns along the highway. Use waze but don't rely on it completely.

One time occurrence? Ha not quite. The time I went there I saw 3 between the way there and back.
