Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk

Anyone here been to the upper antelope canyon or the lower antelope canyon? What are the differences? Are there better and worse tour guides or are they all the same?

Never there but heard lots from others. One of them is nicer and [therefore] more crowded (I believe the upper). As for tour guides TripAdvisor is the way to go.

Is there any reason not to fly to flagstaff directly? Anything special Phx? It looks like Grand Canyon and Sedona are closer to flagstaff. I'm just wondering if I'll be missing something if I do that.

Grand Canyon and Sedona are both closer to Flagstaff than Phoenix.  We only flew into Phoenix because the flight times worked out and we were able to get direct flights.  Also, not sure if this is important, but there are kosher stores and restaurants in Phoenix and Scottsdale, whereas in Flagstaff there are none.  There is Chabad in Flagstaff but I personally would not rely on them.

If you're flying on miles PHX is way easier than these small airports. If you're booking with cash and you don't need to buy food it makes much more sense to fly to one of those you mentioned.

I know the chabad shliach in flagstaff personally very nice guy. Not much he really can do for you in regards to food. I believe he drives to Phoenix himself for food.
