Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

is there really a big difference between the pink jeep tour and any other company?
Yes. Can't compare, firsthand experience on pink jeep, compared to others experience on diff tours.

two separate properties, but villas people can go over to the resort & Spa and use their bigger grounds (lazy river/surfing machine etc, though note surfing costs $ for anyone). pool at villas when i was there in august was mostly empty so spent lots of time there switching over occassionally to the fuller resort grounds for the river and surfing. that surfing experience is a real chavayah, highly recommended.
Why would you go to westin villas over resort and spa?
And can Andaz be booked with hyatt free night?

westin villas 12k a night resort and spa 20k a night.
And the rooms at the villas were very large.
And finally, as a villas guest you have access to all the resort amenities. That's without having to oy the resort fee.

+1.  The question is why would you possibly want to stay at the hotel.  The villas have a separate, less crowded pool that is heated better and if you do want to use anything at the resort, you can.

when I was there the resort pool was actually empty. One day we were the only ones there.

And the surfing is definitely worth it IMO

Best in terms of?  The only thing I can think of is to go when the heat is a bit less oppressive.  Probably first tour of the day.

Here's a recommendation for those vacationing in the Arizona area (especially in the Page area in the summer):  pick a time and set an old style clock to it.  Sometimes the vehicle's clock is fine, but I'm not sure about newer model cars.  Between AZ not doing DST, NV in another time zone, and the Navajo nation on its own time (Antelope Canyon), we had a hard time knowing how much time elapsed between various things.  This can be important for medical and halachic reasons (we dealt with both).
