Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:

do anything fun around sedona or flagstaff?

I just drove past on the way back from the Grand.

I saw people coming off this tour. Looks pretty awesome. $$$ too. http://pinkjeeptours.com/sedona/tour/broken-arrow-jeep-tour/

Otherwise, there are many awesome trails up the red mountains. Check out Bell Rock or Cathedral Rock.

I did many people going up mountains with baby bjorns or the like. Many trails are relatively easy.

Where do you plan on staying?

Sounds grand. Please talk to the local Rabbanim about which food establishments they recommend. Just because someone on ddf has eaten there doesn't mean it's the best kashrus.

Do not forget Nordstrom Last Chance in PHX. I got some neat metziahs there!

i did pink jeep tours back in the day (we barely had put licenses) wasnt gonna rent... it wasnt that expensive and it was amazing. the real reason why we went with them bec they knew where to go and take us. Also someone from the community paid for part of it.

Also go to the American Airlines Arena. there are some very cool fun tours there.

When we went, they were closed, so i started walking towards the building to look in while all the guys started walking back to the car.... low and behold the door was open... we went down to the court and the mercury were just suited up listening to coach and the cheerleaders were also practicing.... def a lot of fun
If you have any questions please search and then ask. PM me for detailed help.

anyone ever been to:
out of africa park?
lowell observatory?
hows the drive on 89a from sedona to flagstaff? is it actually dangerous?
I went to out of Africa many years ago in its original location, and it was nice.. I even helped hold a boa constricter snake!
Lowell observatory isn't worth it..you pay for looking through a telescope for a minute..
And someone already mentioned, but the drive on the 89a is a little tricky, but doesn't take a professional to navigate, and it's beautiful... I've been many times..

anything to do in sedona with a baby?
we are driving up from phoenix, sleeping in flagstaff, and then going to the grand canyon the next morning
we were gonna pass through sedona on the way up, but is there anything to do besides just driving by it and looking around?

im flying sunday from jfk and returning thursday
grand canyon is either tuesday or wednesday
Also going Sunday but returning the following Sunday. My tentative plan is as follows:
Monday- Boating and children's museum
Tuesday-Mexico and if needed Tuscon on the way back (tandem biking??)
Wednesday-Hole in the Rock and McCormick-Stillman Rrailroad Park and if needed Science Museum
Thursday and Friday- Sedona, Flagstaff, GC. Not sure whether to do Out of Africa or BeArizona (not sure the difference)

Any advice will be much appreciated

PS I am going with my wife, 7, 5 and 1.5 year old so the shopping at Last Chance will be at night when they are in bed
PPS I still need a place to stay thursday in Flagstaff or nearby. Any advice?
