PBA card
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:39:48 PM »
does anyone here have (im sure there are plenty) a Policemen's Benevolent Association Card?
if yes, did it ever help you for a ticket or anything of the sort.
please share your story!

regarding me, someone gave me a NJ Pba card from 2010 that says family member on it. will those work in other states? and is it considered "expired"?

Another card i got just today was a PPA - Police Patrolmen's Association. (actually on the card it says "CPPA") i got it from a detective that works in the Cleveland Department and its 2012 and has my name on back, does anyone have experience with a PPA card ?

The key to pba card is personalization. Have it signed in the back and your name written on the back as well. And know the name of the person who gave it to you by heart, the cop will ask you who gave it to you and how you got.

I have one that says "city council member". It has worked on one instance and not the other.
I recently spoke to a retired detective who told me they have recently been abused and they are prob discontinuing them in the near future.
FYI, they cost cops 10 bucks per card.

I would say that varies by state.
In NJ there's no charge for them, but there's a limit of like 10 per cop or something like that. CMIIW

I've heard that (some) cops ask you who you know that gave it to you, to sort of feel out the situation.

Would any random cop on the street know who he is? If they don't recognize him, it probably won't do you much good.

Absolutely. Mine is from NY.

That is true as well. Both times I've used it the cop asked who I got it from.

I didn't realize there were any speed limits in Israel... We averaged 80-120 Mph on most of our trans-Israel trips. Never saw hide nor hair of any cops.

meaning every time i was pulled over for speeding in ny or nj, i would hand over my license inside the badge and would be let off with a warning.
the only time it didnt work was when i was driving from buffalo to toronto and i got pulled over for speeding and talking on a cellphone. because of the badge he didnt cite me for speeding, but he did give me the cellphone ticket.
hope that will change soon, as currently i have a nypd badge but i hope to upgrade to a state trooper badge
