I don't think this is true. While one card can put you in the good 700's, you need a diversified and mature credit history to be in the 800's. Can the experts chime in?

Usually you need more history to be in the 800's but the overall point is correct. We have seen people with a high 7, low 8 score with mostly AU's, and be denied for a loan/card. And then we have seen people with low 7s be approved. Score matters, but ultimately the file needs to have history in your own name to get approved for the big stuff.

810 and wife is 817

This is the first year we've ever cracked the 800's and it feels pretty good. Surprising how an arbitrary and ridiculous number can make you proud that people who don't know you can judge your ability to pay your bills..

how else should people/companies who dont know you be able to judge your ability to pay? take your word for it? assume your telling the truth?
