Once we mispronounce letters, such as equating chof and ches or equating aleph and ayin, we can get into even more trouble when misemphasizing.
Bentching - I think this is a common one. וְזַרְעוֹ מְבַקֶּשׁ לָחֶם. What happens when it is pronounced melira? It sounds like לָכם.
I had once when I heard megillah, by גַּם אֲנִי וְנַעֲרֹתַי אָצוּם כֵּן  - he said אָצוּם meliel. I was wondering if I was yotzei or not... (Lemaaseh some ladies in my cousin's building needed to hear the megilla so I volunteered to lein it for them.)

If you pronounce לחם as מלרע It means to make war

I imagine OP was referring to the fact that they pronounce virtually all words מלעיל, when in reality most words in לשון הקודש should be pronounced מלרע.

I would add that this is a mistake that much of the litvish community makes as well (likely due to the fact that English is always מלעיל), but maybe it’s not quite as pronounced. It’s sometimes surprising to hear how people who are otherwise very learned can mispronounce important things like קריאת שמע.

I don’t know if it’s an issue in Halacha, as I think I once heard that these things are not problematic if society pronounces them that way (anyone know a מקור for that?), but I find it surprising nonetheless.
Can anyone explain why מלעיל is pronounced מלרע, with the emphasis on the last syllable?

I don't have a Heichal Habracha handy but you should look up what he says regarding Dikduk and חתן וחלה.

Yup, this is what I meant. There are other pieces in his Sefarim with more detail on his shita regarding didkduk. I don't remember exactly where. Another example he gives is פלא.

My grandfather used to say "a yiddishe yingel feift nisht" but that probably isn't what you are looking for.

Apparently the Rema felt otherwise because he writes that it's mutar

It's not like he didn't know of this Rema, I guess it wasn't a "goyisha thing" in the times of the Rema :D

(Similar to what they said about your avatar when they start removing it from the shuls a century ago :P)

Gotta check with my grandma again.. Seriously though, you won't get it to fit into halacha-like parameters, if that's what you're looking for, hence the Chaz"I I quoted.

Wow nice. If that's the reason then why do Litvaks care more about whistling than crossing fingers?

I don’t think they care particularly about either one

I would also think so, but felt otherwise after seeing this post and the likes on it, as well as the story with R"S Shvadron. I guess I was assuming mistakenly.
