Refund to cancelled card

I have to cancel my amex plat card soon to avoid the dead line of paying the annual fee. But I am awaiting a refund from a merchant who said that the process will take up to 4 weeks, what will happen if its completed to a cancelled card?? Anyone had experiences?

Amex has gone through by me. Can't speak for other card issuers. Also, it was only 3 or 4 days after cancellation.

I had this happen on a Discover card that was closed for about three months. Discover sent me a check.

You can refund to a card years after cancellation, no worries.
