Apparently after 24 hours of exposure to AQI of 300-400 it’s the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes, so if you do that anyway you should be good…

Edit: scratch that. If you smoke 2 packs a day drop it down to one and you will be fine.
I mean, I wouldn’t give my 2 year old a pack of cigarettes no matter what kind of smoker I was..

Feels like 2020 all over again, but is there any point for bearded folks? Won't the particles get in anyway due to the fit? Or is there still a benefit?
You're probably right, little benefit for bearded folks, other than convincing others to wear one, perhaps.

How much concern is there of long term effects? That’s my main concern, I can handle the discomfort.

This is much simpler because you put one on, and either you feel the difference right away and keep using it, or you don't and take it off.

But why would you want to? I have one in my pocket and if I start to feel the discomfort when I step outside I put it on. It relieved the discomfort for me immediately.

I think little concern because exposure is expected to be very short. The long term effects of exposure to particulates have been described for those with long exposure - military burnpits, 9/11 responders and clean ups, citizens of highly polluted cities.  The comparison to smoking a pack of cigarettes is a good one. Most smokers who developed cancer or COPD were chronic smokers, but still, you wouldn't let your kids smoke even one

9/11 had toxins from everything that burnt that wasn't trees.

The reason parents don't want their kids smoking at all is because they don't want it to be the beginning of a bad habit, that doesn't exist here.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Much less. Just try covering your mouth and nose with your hands and see how much better it is (although still not comfortable by any means).

Yup, it’s different than COVID because with COVID even a small amount of virus could potentially infect you vs. particles where if you’re avoiding inhaling x% of them that’s a significant reduction of potential harm to one’s lungs.

DW was talking on the phone with a neighbor while DS was reading to her subtitles under a series of pictures. One of the pictures showed a planned ignition. Neighbor overheard those words and said "I knew it!"
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Seems like Montreal is doing just fine. I'm no expert but how is that? We in NYC hundreds of miles away have air quality of 200+ and in Montreal it's 50? All good there.. And it's right next to the wild fires..  How does it work?

This isn’t 1 fire. Quebec has about 140 fires, most out of control, & according to Quebec's Premier they can only fight 40 at a time.
