Best way to book NY/LON with points
« on: July 24, 2023, 04:07:40 PM »
I have lots of UR and decent amount of MR points and looking to book NY/LON round trip in August.. Things aren’t cheap, especially after the cruel fuel surcharges. Would like business or at least premium if can get a good deal. And I also need refundable

Right now these look like my best options- if anyone can weigh in whether any of these are decent deals (or not) would be greatly appreciated!

1) 90k UR (via Sapphire Reserve) for Virgin Atlantic economy refundable round trip

2)123k MR converted to 160k Avios plus $1636 surcharges for BA business round trip

3)81k MR (to Virgin) plus $1777 surcharges for Virgin upper class round trip

4)60k MR (to Virgin) plus $1470 surcharges for business/premium round trip

Flying Blue J from NYC to LHR will run you 74k points +about $200 in surcharges for most of august. If you book the return with VS points you could be looking at 95 mr/ur and 650 in surcharges total. I dont know your dates so can't tell you exactly but take a look.

Why 95? it’s still discounted @40k and even without that why 95?

Gotcha. My mistake. I probably read GBP as USD or something like that.

So are you saying this is a deal to jump on?

I personally wouldn't jump on it unless it was COT/TON but the difference is immaterial
