I did not see the forward article but somewhere (NYP?) a female "mesayemet" was complaining about the "Rabbis' view of women" as in kinyan isha etc. It is nebach that she dedicated her life, thousands of hours, to study, or listen to lectures, on something which she does not value, respect or trust. Agudas Yisrael's shitah crafted by great gedolim (R' Aharon Kotler Zt"l being one of them), is that we can't be me'ached with the Conservative and Reform. It was achdus - as much as premitted al pi Halacha. If you have a different shitah, knock yourself out, but don't cririticize ppl who follow gr8 Gedolim of yesteryear.

As AsherO pointed out these people are not just another branch, they are full blown Apikorsim who deny Torah Shebal Peh. I don't think that the lack of Apikorsim indicates a lack of Achdus.

so what you are saying (not sure if you agree or just trying to explain) is that bec my grandmother did not come it is also not true that it was an event that brought all of klal yisroel together? or because %90 + of the non religious jews did not come therefore it was not either?

i still fail to see the issue, just becasue a group or groups of people did not show up (for whatever reason) does not mean it did not bring ALL of klal yisroel together.

I heard from insiders that this was supposed to be a massive party, but after Simchas Torah, the entire marking was revamped to make it more into a toned down serious event.
