That like button on each DDF post has proved to provide a big time dopamine boost, but even without that, there is a certain feedback and attention loop. It's not in the same league as the other platforms, but DDF is most definitely social media, and much like the other platforms, there is plenty to be gained from it, but also plenty of potential for harm.
What?! Who even thinks about likes?
On a serious note, I think you hit the button on the nose. I went off Twitter and turned to DDF for my source of news and entertainment. This place is a far healthier place than Twitter, and in general, I'm interacting with people who I mostly would be more than happy to interact with in the real world. But at the same time, there are aspects of social media incorporated into DDF, which one should use cautiously.
If I had to put a solid number, I'd say DDF is two-thirds "family texting chat" and one-third social media, but I'd say that these figures vary from person to person. Which is one of the beauties of DDF, that it can be used differently by different people.
