I don't think they ever did other that a few individual product exceptions.

Many not.
Some (in particular Chabad), yes.

Those that are makpid as a chumrah, usually they are not makpid on Kielim. Whereas those who hold it as halacha (Lubavitch, and other Chasidim), are more likely to be makpid on Kielim as well.

I don't think they ever did other that a few individual product exceptions.

As far as i can recall, when i was growing up DE was commonplace. The change happened around 15 years ago.

This is definitely something you are mistaken about. I am absolutely certain and have it confirmed from many who were among the higher ups in thee OU at the time that as of 23-25 years ago there was no OU-DE and hadn't been for some time. I think that there never was but am not certain about that.

I am fairly sure that none of these were actually labeled with a DE. Just from the way they describe some makes it pretty clear they were labeled with a regular D. That is what the link says too

Fact is that the "-DE" term is used universally; everyone didn't make it up. OU definitely had it on something at some point.

As I've mentioned in other places, there have been a number of exceptions, most notably on plant based baby formula. This is a far cry from having seen on many products or that it originated from them. Kof-K and OK have been using the designation for many  years and it is much more likely that you saw it there or on baby formula than on cannabis chocolate or organic peanut butter cups.
