Day camp trip. I believe it was six flags. Just remember coming over the bridge, NJ was lit up and Brooklyn was pitch black

It was my first year in sleep-away camp. They really made the best of it with a bonfire etc.

With camp at Canada's wonderland amusement Park. Was is an arcade room when it suddenly became dark and quiet. Some kids were stuck on rides. I remember waiting on line to get bracelets to come back another day.

@mom1000 was home with 18 month old Gavriel (who just moved to Columbia Law School this week) with no power or water.

My father and the older 5 brothers were touring his old stomping grounds in Oregon and Washington.

I remember watching the news as they talked about how PDX was affected...flights to CLE and NYC were being cancelled.

What is this blackout you speak of? I was in camp in the summer of 2003, and I'm pretty sure nothing at all happened to anyone anywhere outside of camp.

The most interesting part about this is how an extremely wealthy Toronto family that was making shabbos sheva brachos that week took the leftovers from the kiddush to serve at shalosh seudos.

What, was I the only one in Brooklyn?  :o
It made quite an impression on me. I was in Chaim Day Camp when the power went. They had fun in the dark for a while but eventually sent everyone home. Busing without traffic lights was NOT fun. The house was dark and my parents came home early from work (took my father extra time to get home). We ate fridge food because it would go bad otherwise. My father is a but of an apocalypse prep type, so we had endless supplies of flashlights and cases of water sitting in a closet. The hardest part was no fans (we weren't such AC users). I remember going to sleep without power - my parents refused to promise that it would be back in the morning, but I think I remember that it was when we woke up.

Inside jokes are allowed on this forum?
Explained: For several years (at least 6?), @yfr bachur and I spent eight hours in close proximity only on Tisha B'Av (in Brooklyn, kamuvan), and otherwise never seeing each other.

Was in camp. From when it got dark until bedtime, they had everyone in the shul, saying stories and davening maariv. They had cars parked by the doorways with the headlights shining into the shul for lighting. Eventually, they set up cars along the entire stretch from the shul to the bunkhouses and had everyone walk to their rooms to sleep, with the cars staying around with the motors running so that there can be at least minimal lighting in the bunkhouses.
