more of a woman’s side thing to do, when your buddy/colleague/boss makes a kiddush it’s pretty common to send a bottle/board when you’re not close “family” friends
If you know that he's already getting "a ton of meat boards, fish boards and alcohol" on top of whatever he himself is buying for the kiddush then maybe a non-food gift would be more unique.
If it's a kiddush for a newborn, maybe a rocking chair, "for those nights when you're the one who has to calm the baby" or noise-cancelling headphones, "for when you don't want to be the one who hears the baby."
