Think of Moving?

Airports:
  • CLE is about 15 minutes from downtown and 25-30 minutes from the Jewish community.  It's a focus city for Frontier, Spirit, and United.
  • The RTA (Rapid transit train) at Brookpark station has free parking and is just 1 train stop (3 minutes) to the stop inside the airport. The train costs $2.50 and the schedule is here: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline/schedules/current#WestboundWeekday
An uber from Brookpark station to CLE is about $10.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CLE is about $30.
  • CLE off-site parking is about $9/day, on-site parking is $17-$22/day, and curbside valet parking is $35/day.
  • CAK is ~40 minutes from the Jewish community and located nearby the NFL Hall of Fame.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CAK is about $45.
  • CAK parking is $7/day for long-term and $15-$18/day for short-term.
  • PIT is ~100 minutes from the Jewish community. It offers nonstop service to London, Montreal, and more.

Hotels:
  • There is a Hyatt Place in Legacy Village within walking distance of the Jewish community, though it's located just outside of the Eruv. It costs only 8K points/night.
  • There is a nice Hyatt Regency downtown for 12K points/night (25 minutes drive) in a unique vintage arcade building and an excellent spa that gives hotel guests 25% off and accepts SpaFinder certs from Costco that can be purchased for an additional 20% off.
  • The nicest hotel in Cleveland is like the Ritz-Carlton downtown. Marriott's Metropolitan at The 9 is also highly regarded, with a bar in an old vault. There is also a Hilton, Westin, and Kimpton downtown.

Transportation:
  • There is a subway/light rail connecting the airport with downtown, University Circle (where the Case campus and many museums are) and the Jewish community area, but renting a car is pretty much required unless you are just going between the airport and downtown.

Will you have a car? Does it matter if you're 10-15 minutes away?
You could prob pick up a nice room for $30 on PL.

dont know what You paid but its the Old Shearton Hotel not a bad place, dont know what you got it for.

The Bad thing is its on the I-77 which is on the West side not far from CLE (the airport)

The Good thing its all Interstae Hway from the Hotel over to the East side where Beachwood is located.

I stayed there for a night a few yrs ago when I was saying kaddish and simply drove over to the Beachwood area for the minyan, just www.mapquest.com it I think it was 20mins max

I hope you did your homework on www.betterbidding.com & www.biddingfortravel.com before you actually did any bidding thats besides looking at say orbitz, travelocity, expedia to get a ringling of what Rates were going for and of cause the differnt Hotel sites themselves with AAA etc to see what they were offering as there lowest Rates

Thats besides understanding how to get free rebids, its an art and does take some time to learn, but well worth when you end up $aving the $$$

Heres a pic and how it looks like the old Sheraton: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-375758-skyline_hotel_and_conference_center-i

in case you read the reviews note the Dates the Hotel used to be a 4 Points then became a Clarion then Sheraton and now Skyline (dont know what it was before the 4P)

I'll leave it to Dan to fill you in on the Shuls or simply go to www.godaven.com and Clevland and most are on the same street , the places to eat are a 2 min drive from that block of Shuls

Is the west side a bad neighborhood?

Not that Im aware of only I cant figure out if you were looking for Beachwood how you won a Hotel on the other side of Clev

Look at it this way eg you won a Hotel by LGA in Queens when you needed to be in Boro Park and BP is where the religious area is (which of cause isnt the case in NY but is in CLE) or you needed to be on 41st St in Miami Beach and you won a Hotel in Aventura or 203 St. Youre lucky in that as I posted its all hway if I remember correctly you will get on the I-77 for a few mins then onto the I-480 East to the I-271 North and off at the Beachwood exit its a funny exit as you need to make an upside U in order to cross over to the other side of the Hway. But as I said its maybe 20 mins max not so bad.

The other week I had a wedding in Toronto, flew into BUF and slept after the wedding in Niagara Falls which is 1  1/2 hrs from Toronto

You're in Independence, which is about halfway between the airport and Beachwood.  It's not quite the west side of Cleveland.
There are a dozen hotels there and it's perfectly safe and quiet.  I've been to the Hyatt Place in Independence dozens of times.

It's a 15-20 minute drive to the Jewish attractions.

How much did you get it for? What star level did you pick?

Independence is the name of the City , I guess just as Beachwood isnt exactly Clevland either

I tried to let CD know that were going to be West of Beachwood by a bit. Ive yet to have  afriend that lives in the borders of Beachwood ever tell me they live in Beachwood and not Clevland. They always tell people they live in Clevland

So to me and it may be Wrong, I see Beachwood as the East Side of CLE and Independnce as the West Side, when in fact neither are in the City of Clevland, they are  their own Citys

I doubt there are any Jews who actually live in the city of Cleveland.  Everyone lives in the suburbs, and each suburb is its own city with its own mayor, police force, school system, etc.

There is a strong East side/West side "rift" between residents.   It's got nothing to do with being actually in the city.  It has to do with being east or west of the Cuyahoga river, which roughly follows I-71. It's joked that East siders never venture to the west side except to go to the airport.  I'm just saying the Independence isn't that far away.  It's actually due south of Cleveland right off I-71 so it's more of a border city.

Just saying "West of Beachwood" would also include Cleveland Heights, which is decidedly on the east side, and Cleveland itself which is split by the Cuyahoga...

Dan a few posts up I posted I-77 I see from this post its the I-71 can you change that as "Modify" is no longer an option for me on that post

I usually stay down in CF by the Shearton Suites, nice place and I get great rates but when I was saying kaddish I wanted to be closerr to the Area and Route 8 can be a traffic nightmare during rush hours. when I was staying with HH the Hampton Inn in WestLake usually had a $49 coupon in roomsaver.com so even thou it was a very plain HI w/o anything it more then served the purpose

CLE is where I bed down for the night when driving to Detroit, it gets most of the driving out of the way so that Fri morn Im not pressured due to Shabbos. thats why I know the little I do about CLE. I do the trip sometimes 2 or 3 times a yr I-80 to _76 to route 8 or a exit or 2 before if heading to Beachwwod then over to the 90 to Route2 to TOL no Turnpikes for me

I do the trip sometimes 2 or 3 times a yr I-80 to _76 to route 8 or a exit or 2 before if heading to Beachwwod then over to the 90 to Route2 to TOL no Turnpikes for me
To go from NYC to Beachwood the fastest routing would be I-80 to I-480 to I-271.  Tolls would only be on a tiny segment of I-80 and are not more than $1 if you pay with EZ-Pass.

Also Route 8 has undergone a major facelift into a highway without lights and is almost done! The facelift has knocked 10 minutes off the trip between Cleveland and Akron.
