Think of Moving?

Airports:
  • CLE is about 15 minutes from downtown and 25-30 minutes from the Jewish community.  It's a focus city for Frontier, Spirit, and United.
  • The RTA (Rapid transit train) at Brookpark station has free parking and is just 1 train stop (3 minutes) to the stop inside the airport. The train costs $2.50 and the schedule is here: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline/schedules/current#WestboundWeekday
An uber from Brookpark station to CLE is about $10.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CLE is about $30.
  • CLE off-site parking is about $9/day, on-site parking is $17-$22/day, and curbside valet parking is $35/day.
  • CAK is ~40 minutes from the Jewish community and located nearby the NFL Hall of Fame.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CAK is about $45.
  • CAK parking is $7/day for long-term and $15-$18/day for short-term.

Hotels:

  • There is a nice Hyatt Regency downtown for 12K points/night (25 minutes drive) in a unique vintage arcade building and an excellent spa that gives hotel guests 25% off and accepts SpaFinder certs from Costco that can be purchased for an additional 20% off.
  • The nicest hotel in Cleveland is like the Ritz-Carlton downtown. Marriott's Metropolitan at The 9 is also highly regarded, with a bar in an old vault. There is also a Hilton, Westin, and Kimpton downtown.

Transportation:
  • There is a subway/light rail connecting the airport with downtown, University Circle (where the Case campus and many museums are) and the Jewish community area, but renting a car is pretty much required unless you are just going between the airport and downtown.

How much less convenient is flying LGA-CAK instead of -CLE if I want to go to cleveland? I can rent a car if that would make things much easier.
How would you getting around CLE without a car?

I know this isn't really the right thread, but it's the best way to reach out to the CLE folk.

I have a friend that needs to go CLE/CAK-PHX on New Year's Eve after like 8PM. Any chance he can do this for >$200. Frontier has an option but it's 6:45PM and that's too early. Otherwise tickets are over $300. Any CLE tricks?

Yes, but generally no one responds here. He has no miles and he's not the type that would deal with hidden city.

Well then... is he the type to "deal with" paying big bucks?  ::)

Nah, he'll probably just pass on the trip to PHX. Too bad for him.

Unger's is the best and worst thing about Cleveland.
Store hasn't been updated since 1972 (and there are likely products on the shelf from then), but man do they have good hours. I don't think they are ever closed.

Years ago I went in with a friend of mine, close to midnight, right after they finished making fresh glazed donuts. They gave us all the doughnut holes.... WOW!!

Would be darn near impossible to get to anything kosher.

RTA has busses going through all the main roads, Taylor, Cedar etc... Its technically possible. Granted a ten min car ride will take you alot longer, but it's definitely doable. Just not normally done in the community.

Lol, a car is only a hassle in a city with bad traffic and expensive parking.

That ain't CLE.

Uber is relatively cheap here though.

This should be part of the thread of pros and cons of each city
