Think of Moving?

Airports:
  • CLE is about 15 minutes from downtown and 25-30 minutes from the Jewish community.  It's a focus city for Frontier, Spirit, and United.
  • The RTA (Rapid transit train) at Brookpark station has free parking and is just 1 train stop (3 minutes) to the stop inside the airport. The train costs $2.50 and the schedule is here: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline/schedules/current#WestboundWeekday
An uber from Brookpark station to CLE is about $10.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CLE is about $30.
  • CLE off-site parking is about $9/day, on-site parking is $17-$22/day, and curbside valet parking is $35/day.
  • CAK is ~40 minutes from the Jewish community and located nearby the NFL Hall of Fame.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CAK is about $45.
  • CAK parking is $7/day for long-term and $15-$18/day for short-term.

Hotels:

  • The nicest hotel in Cleveland is like the Ritz-Carlton downtown. Marriott's Metropolitan at The 9 is also highly regarded, with a bar in an old vault. There is also a Hilton, Westin, and Kimpton downtown.

Transportation:
  • There is a subway/light rail connecting the airport with downtown, University Circle (where the Case campus and many museums are) and the Jewish community area, but renting a car is pretty much required unless you are just going between the airport and downtown.

Tuition in CLE
« Reply #2363 on: June 26, 2018, 11:55:37 AM »
Hi,

I read a bunch of posts on this site but I'm getting conflicting information as well as outdated links (i.e Gesher Cleveland not working). Can someone explain to me if tuition on Cleveland is free/reduced? I understand that there are different programs for different areas within the eruv. Any information would help.

Thanks!!!

If you live in University Heights/Cleveland Heights you can get a voucher for $4,650 per student in K-8 and $6,000 in 9-12. This is not income dependent.
If you make less than the following amounts, you get free tuition:

curious if there is a "free tuition" cap? i.e. 15,000 - $16,000 for high school ?

My understanding was that the school is required to accept whatever the government offers if one qualifies for low income vouchers

Thanks for the replies. Are these vouchers limited to those two neighborhoods? Are those two neighborhoods the main frum neighborhoods in Cleveland? Also if I earn more than 200%, what can I expect the tuition to cost (are tuitions inflated due to the vouchers)?

its not inflated but from my understanding it could be that the school won’t give you a break if you don’t qualify for the totally free one since they won’t count the amount that they get from the government as if you paid it.

+1 the vouchers should actually cause tuition to go down, because instead of everyone subsidizing for the people get scholarships, the vouchers are covering that. That being said, I doubt any school will lower tuition just because they have some extra money coming in....

Thanks, so if I understand correctly, If I make more than 200% above poverty line, I will not be better off tuition wise by living in Cleveland, correct? Also, there other neighborhoods or is the entire community within those two neighborhoods.

Thanks again!!

No cap.

amazing. So if a family with 6 children is earning $84,700 and their children's tuition costs $9,000 - $16,000 per child, then an approximate total of $100,000 is paid to the schools for their tuition?!?

 (4 children x $9K + 4 children x $16K = $100K)

No, the school gets the same voucher. They just have to accept it as full payment.

Driving from Baltimore to Southbend and want to make a pit stop in Cleveland for the night to break up the drive. Whats the closest hotel to a kosher fleishig (dinner) and milchig (breakfast) place to the highway that is also near a hotel?

I see that the Hyatt place is a twenty-minute drive from Kantina... Any better options?

Hyatt Place Legacy is closest to the main Jewish community and most shuls and restaurants.

Kantina services the medical centers and Case campus. There's an Intercontinental and Doubletree nearby that.

Which area would you suggest for least distance from interstate 90? Also, can you give me a good milchig and fleishig place near Hyatt place legacy?

Passing Cleveland, you would still be on the 80.
Hyatt Place Legacy is much easier on/off the highway. Will only add a total of 30 min extra.
