Think of Moving?

Airports:
  • CLE is about 15 minutes from downtown and 25-30 minutes from the Jewish community.  It's a focus city for Frontier, Spirit, and United.
  • The RTA (Rapid transit train) at Brookpark station has free parking and is just 1 train stop (3 minutes) to the stop inside the airport. The train costs $2.50 and the schedule is here: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline/schedules/current#WestboundWeekday
An uber from Brookpark station to CLE is about $10.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CLE is about $30.
  • CLE off-site parking is about $9/day, on-site parking is $17-$22/day, and curbside valet parking is $35/day.

  • The nicest hotel in Cleveland is like the Ritz-Carlton downtown. Marriott's Metropolitan at The 9 is also highly regarded, with a bar in an old vault. There is also a Hilton, Westin, and Kimpton downtown.

Transportation:
  • There is a subway/light rail connecting the airport with downtown, University Circle (where the Case campus and many museums are) and the Jewish community area, but renting a car is pretty much required unless you are just going between the airport and downtown.

A place like Milt's or ABC would just kill it here.
What's your thinking as to why no restaurants have thrived in Cle in a while?

Doesn't really answer the question. Yes, the individual restaurants are not very good and therefore closed down. The question is why hasn't a decent business person recognized the market and opened a decent place? It begs the question maybe there really isn't a market in CLE? Alternatively, business ppl in CLE have lower IQs than other cities.

People with high IQs and/or business acumen go into more lucrative, less time intensive businesses than the food business.

Reading comprehension... I know as many businessmen in Cleveland as you do, likely more. Go back and reread my post.

People with high IQs and/or business acumen go into more lucrative, less time intensive businesses than the food business.

Agreed, yet with that said there are still successful restaurants in other cities (LA, Miami, NYC, YUL, YYZ etc.). Which leads back to my question, why has no one opened a successful restaurant in CLE?

Well a restaurant without delicious food is not going to successful.  So losers can keep opening up places with mediocre food or invest in a place where I'd actually want to go to on a weekly basis.

Sorry, but I agree with the comment way up thread. Cleveland general mentality is a simpler lifestyle. Clevelanders aren't into luxury even if they can afford it. Look at the cars, houses, etc. There are people worth $100s of millions that drive cars worth less than people in MIA making $50k a year.

Yes, it's a beautiful thing for those who can get over the brainwashed Lakewood/Brooklyn KUWTJ mentality, but at the end of the day eating out is a quasi luxury, and it's not CLE. IMO Chef Dave is successful because it's a limited time opportunity, and it gives people an extra kick to take a night out. But on a regular night the average CLE family would rather a simpler dinner at home, than a night out

Leaning towards this...but as Dan would rightly point out, it can't be confirmed because there hasn't been a decent place yet.

I would say the majority of Frum food establishments are poorly managed. As they say, if you want to make some money in the food business, start with a lot of it.

In addition, the reason why a competent food person hasn't done anything is probably because he believes that if he builds it they wont come

I'm assuming you were referring to the ppl that open the restaurants. I commented because you made a statement "Alternatively, business ppl in CLE have lower IQs than other cities." If that's not what you meant, I apologize.

Thanx.
I think Dan hangs with a different crowd then what we know (cmiiw).
The crowd we're talking about is the majority of Cleveland hieghts, wikliff, university hieghts, and Dan is with the Beachwood crowd. I don't know if that alone would support a new restaurant

thnx!
Nice website - Great flavors: http://www.shannonroadicecream.com/flavors.html but, dairy ice cream is best..

Had the Toffee Bar and Fudgenado flavors, both were excellent with great chunks in them.  Could pass as Klein's dairy for sure.

Cannolis were great as well.

Did the delivery option for just $2.50, very convenient.
