Nothing too good for free.

Unless you want to do some rebate thing.

You don't like MSE?

Its decent... But I deff wouldn't put it as being a secure protection

I like Norton a lot

Micro Trend is also good

Mcaffee and AVG are a total waste

(I have spent way to much time removing viruses from computers that had Mcaffe or AVG)

Norton used to be absolute crap, apparently they've turned around and are now actually pretty good.
AVG is the opposite, they used to have a decent free product but now its more bloatware then anything.
McAffe is still garbage.
Trend Micro and Kaspersky are both great paid choices.
Microsoft Security Essentials is the free one that I recommend these days, not as good as the paid ones but it is free.

I have set up Windows 7 with auto updates and Microsoft Security Essentials on my family members computers and have yet to have them come back to me with a virus...

jk, i just havent got around to testing it for myself so unless it happens to be a free subscription (they are usually trials) then i still remove it.

MSE works fine for me BUT it slowed down my computer's startup immensely.

If anyone is looking for norton you can get it FAR right now on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832108655

ETA: just curious, do you think you can buy it from newegg for $45 with a $45 MIR and then price match it to somewhere else that is selling it for $30?

The problem is Norton and other major antivirus protection will not stop something like “Win 7 Antispyware 2012”. They are reactive and not pro active.
