Nothing ever changes. The Americans forcing agreements are delusional and force the signing of unimplementable "agreements" that leave significant holes. The problem is that on the Israeli side, there are people with overblown egos that are willing to overlook the reality just so they can be inscribed in history books, while the truth is that "הים אותו ים, הערבים אותם ערבים".

Ha! Second person in the past week I heard this from (I haven't read the book and don't plan on). The first: "After reading his memoir, I thought Obama was the most narcissistic politician ever. But then I started reading Bibi's memoir and he is the most egotistical, megalomaniacal dude alive. I couldn't finish it." (for context, this guy reads a ton, like a few books a week, including loads of authors and viewpoint he vehemently disagrees with.)

Probably not really any of the above. It's rarely what it may seem on its face. Most of these deals plays out as a result of backdoor politics and geopolitical maneuvering that never really make the press until something big happens. Strengthening alliances, trying to weaken existing alliances with other superpowers, tit-for-tat trade deals, concessions to get deals, etc. Virtually every one of these things factors in what it does for us straight up, plus what it takes away from China or Russia or whoever we're competing with position or power.
