The problem is that it appears that there is no source that says מלחמת גוג ומגוג will take place on Shmini Atzeres. The Tur תק״צ brings from Rav Hai Gaon that Gog Umagog will take place in Tishrei.

The sources that it will take place on a specific date all quote Rav Chaim Vital from the אריז״ל in ספר הליקוטים and a Mesorah from the Gaon (and a Medrash Talpios) and they both say it takes place on  Hoshana Rabbah. The Gaon further places it in the three hours prior to dawn on the night of Hoshana Rabbah.

(There is also the problem of the sources placing it on Motzai Shviis which Rav Sorotzkin addresses by considering Succos following Motzai Shviis to be an extension of Motzai Shviis.)

Note, the average person looking into the marei mekomos of the הגר"א is not going to understand anything, as you have to be very proficient in the Vilna Goan's style and you would need to learn the entire שטיקל.

Rav Sorotzkin said in today's shiur (#532),  that if one hasn't listened, it would be worth listening to #518, #519 to understand the attitude towards talking about Moshiach, and shiur #520 to get brief overview of the process of Geula.  And in today and in the next few shiurim he said he will bezras hashem discuss the current situation how it's connected to the Geulah, connection with Gog & Magog, and how it's connected to Motzei Shvi'is and Hoshana Rabba and particularly Shemini Atzeres - so one would need to listen to the next couple of shiurim.

How many posts have there been about CNN this and CNN that? If they would just watch these two hours each day they would get real info. Instead, all I keep hearing is MSM but still have not seen one post that says who that is.

I only quoted you because your posts carry weight and hopefully some will start watching at least these two guys.

Many here can't or won't watch CNN on TV. Their exposure to CNN is online and via social media, channels run by anonymous gen Zers seemly lacking any semblance of a moral compass. I have no doubt that people who need to share their face with the public every day and are also older and wiser are much better and I trust your reports that they are giving fair coverage. It is a shame that they need to share the same corporate label.

Rav Dov HaCohen Kook in Teveriah said that now days, you do not need ruach hakodesh to know that Moshiach is coming. (Note, Rav Kook is a very holy person, he spends the entire day learning, and doesn't sleep more than 30 minutes at a time). He had ruach hakodesh from already before shkiyah on hoshana rabba, and was crying. He didn't pertake in hakafos that Friday night - before the massacre, as he was only able to see black, and knew that something is going to befall.  Same thing was said about the Yanukah - (Rav Shlomo Yehudah).

Previously one needed a איזהו חכם - הרואה את הנולד.... Today you have to be a שוטה .

Army engineers are beginning a wide-scale operation to destroy Hamas tunnels in areas of the Gaza Strip that have come under Israeli control since the start of the ground offensive, the Walla news site reports.

The combat engineers are using various types of robots and explosive devices to destroy the tunnels, detonate any booby traps installed by Hamas, and kill terrorists, the report says.

“Maybe at first they were able to harass us, sting us by firing from tunnel exits, but after we established control of the areas, the engineering operation started,” a senior officer in the Southern Command tells Walla.

“We are going to collapse the entrances and the tunnels on them. It will become a death zone. They made a mistake, they chose to be in a place they cannot escape from. They will die in the tunnels,” he said.

The report says the troops have already destroyed some 100 tunnels not counting the ones hit in airstrikes.

Former deputy IDF chief of staff Yair Golan says that “under no circumstances” should or will IDF soldiers enter Hamas’s terror tunnels, as the army broadens its ground operation to destroy Hamas’s military capabilities.

In an interview with Army Radio, the reserves general says, “You don’t need to go into the tunnels” and “it would be a grave mistake to enter the tunnels” where Hamas is hiding out and waiting.

“The wisdom is to find the entrances and seal them or send in smoke that will cause the enemy to come out or will harm him,” says Golan.

I firmly believe that every major upheaval in Klal Yisrael represents an opportunity for ביאת המשיח. If you want to look at it deeper, the רע rises up at all cost when it senses a Zman מסוגל coming as עמלק did before מעמד הר סיני and as המן (Amalek) did once again when they sensed the rebuilding of the בית המקדש coming as brought down in seforim.

However I don’t understand how you can say Rav Sorotzkin predicted Shimi Atzeres when in the Shiur he repeatedly points to הושענא רבה bringing numerous sources, and specifically the night of הושענה רבה prior to dawn.

Same goes for the Gaon. The Mesorah from him says specifically the 3 hours prior to dawn on הושענא רבה night, and that those sitting in the Succah will be saved. That is clearly not שמיני עצרת. If anything שמיני עצרת represents the מצב after גוג ומגוג when it is אני ועתה.

It would be far better to be מעורר people by quoting the טור בשם ר׳ האי גאון that גוג ומגוג will take place sometime in תשרי.

For the most part they probably won't and it's heartbreaking.  But they will prevent Hamas from killing thousands more
