2 methods I've heard of them using so far (could be one-time, or could be the MO) is grenades and smoke.

they have gas masks and oxygen down there. Grenades means you have to get close.

I've seen videos of robots going in with guns that are controlled from the outside (wireless or wired).

On Friday unfortunately 4 Israeli soldiers were killed while uncovering a booby trapped tunnel shaft in or near a mosque.
