Levy did not come up in the political system. After Oct 7 he just started doing interviews on his own, and did a great job so Israel hired him. I think that was part of his appeal, he wasn't as political as others have been, and was more direct. The drawback to that is that sometimes you have to play political games when dealing with politicians. Of course we want him rehired, but if he is making unapproved statements as an official spokesman, that could be extremely problematic.
There was another guy who was speaking on his own that got hired by the IDF, and he jumped the gun when the IDF bombed the hospital he made excuses about how there were terrorists in the hospital and so it was a legit attack, only for it to turn out that the hospital wasn't even bombed.
