AS PER RAV NISAN KARELITZS BAIS DIN
BEING THAT TAKE OFF FLIGHT PATHS HAVE BEEN CHANGED BY THE ISRAELS CIVIL AVATION ADMIN
FOR DIFFRENT TIMES OF THE DAY, NOW FLYING OVER THE CEMETERY IN HOLON
KOHANIM ARE (DEFINITLEY)FORBIDDEN TO FLY OUT FROM ISRAEL TO USA
FROM 15 MINUTES AFTER SUNSET UNTIL 1 AM (THIS INC DELTA/CONTINENTAL/ELAL NEWARK FLT)
THE 1AM FLT TO JFK IS OK
AGAIN FROM 2AM UNTIL BET20-25MINUTES BEFORE SUNRISE IS DEFINETLY ASSUR
FROM 20-25MINUTES BEFORE SUNRISE IS PERMITTED THOUGH IS A SOFEK
FROM SUNSET TO 15MINUTES AFTER SUNSET IS A SOFEK BUT LIKELY TO BE OSSUR

their are certain times when instead of flying the reg normal flight pattern over tel-aviv they divert the out/incoming flts over cholon= eastwards which goes directly over the cemetery their which is problematic for kohanim

understood, but the control tower won't say, LY745 shkiya according to shitas x is in 2 mins, and as you have another 2 planes taking off before you, divert your flight.

But they may say LY745 it is too dark now (might wake up an endangered species of the mideastern frog) so we are in route B mode...

Before listening to some Israeli Ban-happy Rov, I suggest you call your American Rov, the airplane is a Rshuas Hayachid, which is also sealed, even though tumah goes all the way up to the skies, it is sort of the same as a kohen walking in a cemetary with people surrounding him....

Also many ELAL flights going to Israel have a Meis on-board and it is not a halachic problem because of the way the do it, they worked it out with the Poskim

Ohel zaruk lav shmey ohel so being in an airplane is not all that simple of a heter. Agreed one should always consult their Rabbi.

i remember the first time this shayla came up about ten years ago,the kohanim put on a garbage bag with a tefach floor so it should be chotzetz.....other people thought they were nuts.....seriously an airplane is a question by itself since i know rabbonim that dont obligate kohanim to do this...bnei brak rabbonim tend to be more machmir everyone ask their rabbi i dont think to discuss this here will bring much except for some unnecessary l"h
