As a general rule:
1. Flights are prone to 30-60 min. delays regularly meaning if you have a stopover for 2 hrs take into account it might be only 1 hr. (although certain airlines may do better)
2. Cheap Israeli airlines have a very bad history of changing departure times. (This can work out in your favor.)
3. For international flights - if you need to take your luggage out and recheck you need at least an 1 1/2 hrs. preferably 2 hours. (add about a half hour for families)
4. For international flights - Have an alternate plan (or insurance) if you have less than 4 hr. stopover by a self-transfer.

It is - although with most airports an hr.+ is fine when flying on the same airline.

Besides a lot of airlines will do their utmost to make sure you get the flight as it is their responsibility. In PRG (if I remember correctly) I got a private escort and private check in, in Economy, because of a tight connection.
