I just had a rather strange conversation with a representative from Virgin Atlantic. At the outset, he firmly stated that Virgin Atlantic is only willing to substitute the flight segment from Tel Aviv to London with El Al flights. They are absolutely unwilling to replace this segment with a flight from Tel Aviv to JFK without layovers, even if there is no availability on El Al for the desired dates. He explained that if any representative made such a booking by mistake, it would be canceled, as these are the clear policies of the company that he has heard reiterated numerous times by his superiors at Virgin Atlantic.

He also mentioned that the company discovered that many passengers were intentionally booking with Virgin Atlantic at lower fares, under the assumption that Virgin would transfer them to El Al flights. They are not going to allow that to happen. Furthermore, he claimed that the reason the route to Tel Aviv has not been canceled yet, despite multiple requests from sales representatives to halt ticket sales, is because the CEO of Virgin Atlantic, Shai Weiss, is an Israeli from Tel Aviv. According to him, this has resulted in billion-dollar losses for the company due to this poor decision.

This encapsulates the essence of the bizarre conversation. What are your thoughts? What would you advise me to do?

I actually had virgin flights booked thru delta for January, first rep told me they can only rebook on DL metal (delta didn't cancel Jan yet), after 2 HUCA's they got me on the DL codeshare with ELAL direct

Interesting, people didn't book because they knew virgin would cancel and they can get an elal flight. instead people didn't have an issue booking virgin even if they might cancel because they offer protection on elal, unlike LH group, united etc. who'll leave you stranded without alternative options.

I personally know people that booked on DL and VS because they knew they would cancel and will be protected on LY....

If you're referring to booking with the chase travel portal. chase would rebook you according to delta's policies like any other travel agent.
If you paid with points you'll get your points refunded.

Tried if for a client and originally it did confirm when they wtried to ticket it they said elal pulled it back saying that virgin should not have been able to access that
